Coffee Pioneers
Enoc Flores
Enoc Flores the owner and founder of Coffee Del Cerro, LLC, was born in a poor village in Trinidad de Quebradas, Honduras, Central America. Not having many educational opportunities, he was forced to labor the coffee fields at the age of 8. He knows the labor involved because he experienced it himself. At age 16, he decided he wanted a better life for himself and his family so he sought out The United States. In 2000, he came to the United States and started working in the construction industry. As soon as he received his first paycheck in the USA, he started to help his family. While working in construction field in USA, Enoc also helped invest in farm land in a few different areas of Honduras. He always remembered the days of walking a few miles back and forth to the farm and decided he didn’t want his family to endure that any longer. So, he sent them a pickup truck which helped them tremendously in the production and transportation of their coffee (rather than by donkey or horse). Sending tools and helping to teach his community some of the resources he has learned here in the United States gives him a great sense of pride.
In 2014, Enoc had the opportunity to return to Honduras after being separated from his family for 14 years. Over the years he has continued to support his community by helping to sustain the Coffee Del Cerro farm which employs approximately 25 people during different seasons. In addition, he frequently sends donation boxes filled with clothes, toys and household items for the Los Planes people.
While Enoc is in the United States, he collaborates with his younger brother, Cesar Adony Flores, who does an excellent job managing the day to day activities on the farm in Honduras. Enoc continues to brain storm with Cesar to build a better future for the farm and Honduran people.
Cesar Adony Flores
Cesar Adony Flores is Enoc Flores’ younger brother and the Operations Manager for the farm, Finca Del Cerro. When Cesar first began working on the farm he held more of a back seat position and followed the reigns of his and Enoc’s dad. However, at an early age Cesar was faced with a very difficult challenge. Their dad became sick and was losing his vision. Without much experience, Cesar immediately stepped into the role and focused on leading the farm and it’s more than 25 workers into a positive direction.
To weather the economic struggles of the Honduran economy, he made the decision to not only harvest specialty crafted coffee, but came up with further ideas to diversify the farm. “Farmers just keep doing the same thing, I want to do things differently.” he said. He began planting other fruits and vegetables like yucca, plantains, bananas, tomatoes, lemon trees and more! He’s also constructed a hen house where the hens produce enough eggs to feed many of the locals.
Cesar also leads knowledgeable and friendly guided tours and visits to our farm. He takes pride in presenting these insightful origin trips and hopes to continue meeting more coffee loving professionals from around the world. He wishes to accomplish all this while preserving his family’s heritage and at the same time produce decent jobs for the community to help the people. His peers admire him and describe him as an intelligent, hardworking man with a lot of integrity. We are proud to have him on our team and in our family.
